I have always had good luck finding valuable items at garage sales and flea markets. One of my best finds was a bunch of old Antique oil paintings at a multi family garage sale. I paid $90 for 10 of them so this worked out to about $10 for each. I listed the antiue paintings on eBay with no reserve. I made killer money! One of them sold for $340, and I got good money for the other 9. All total I scored about $1100! What a good investment!

It is true that low cost antiques as an investment have beat the stock market and have kept pace with the price of gold even in a down economy. It happens all the time that an person dies of old age and dies poor, when their home is filled with $300,000 worth of old and collectable stuff. It would make more sense to have an estate sale when the person is still alive. At least this way they can really enjoy the last years of their life. I wish I kept some of the toys when I was a kid as some of these are worth a fortune right now. So are the cars. I had a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado in high school my father helped me buy back in 1975. I paid $1200 for it and it ran real sweet. It had 3 two barrel carbs and produced 365 horsepower. Discount Antiques Mall Store Shopping It would out run my buddies mustang! It had a stainless roof, in-dash tissue box and air freshner. It was so cool and all the girls wanted to ride in it. After school I sold it because I needed the money for an International Scout 4x4 I wanted for deer hunting. I really wish I kept the Cadillac as I see they are selling for $50,000 now. This is one I wish I could have back.

I like junk. I sometimes travel many miles looking for that small outdoor flea market where people bring their junk. I picked up an old barn weather vane rooster for $20. I then listed it on a online auction with no reserve. There was an all out bidding war! I ended up selling it for $250. I pick up a lot of other junk too. I am always looking for old tools and fishing tackle. One of the best finds are old golf clubs with wooden shafts. You can get as much as $150 each for them. You can tell how old they are by the rust. Those with the heads made of nickel alloy don't rust. Ones forged of iron do rust and these are the valuable ones. I also look out for old sissor jacks for cars from the 1950's and 1960's. They are extra heavy duty and twice as good as the ones on modern vehicles.
